Bedmates Soulmates

CHAPTER 76

Blacklist Them

Austyn headed into the ward.

Kira was standing on tiptoe, trying to reach the open window.

There was a draught in the room.

But the awning window was set high above the ground.

She hopped a few times with her right arm raised, but the operator handle remained out of her reach.

Her t-shirt was riding up, revealing a section of her slim waist.

The skinny jeans fit her snugly, accentuating her perky backside.

The tantalising view drew his eyes like a magnet.

Austyn's mind flashed back to the night they did it in the study.

She was lying on her back on the desk.

After she complained about the inkstone cutting into her back, Austyn lifted her and held her buttocks in his palms as he slid into her.

It wasn't just sex, he realised.

He made love to her that night with unbridled passion.

Austyn looked away before he let libido take over his brain.

He took two deep breaths to cleanse his thoughts.

He would have taken her right on the spot if this were someplace else.

But this was her father's hospital room.

His father-in-law was lying just a few steps away.

Kira was still struggling with the window, oblivious to the X-rated thoughts raging through her husband's mind.

The curtains were billowing.

The wind was blowing directly over her father's bed.

She was afraid he might catch a cold.

When she turned around, she stared straight into Austyn's dark eyes.

The man stood there quietly.

'Has he been standing there the whole time and just watching me swipe at the window like a circus monkey? Kira thought. "He could have at least offered to help.' "Come here."

'Why?' Kira didn't want to move.

He had a dangerous look in his eyes.

Austyn crooked a finger at her. "Don't make me repeat myself."

Why is he suddenly in a mood again?' Kira wondered.

Reluctantly, she took a tiny step toward him.

Austyn, impatient with her snail's pace, covered the distance between them with two strides and pulled

her into his arms.

Kira's nose bumped against his chest.

'Ow.' She felt her eyes water. 'I thought rock-hard pecs were just a figure of speech."

She wanted to rub her nose, but she was locked in a tight embrace.

'It's like hitting a brick ball,' she complained in her heart.

"You didn't come home last night. Did you stay at the hospital?'

Kira felt the vibration in his chest as he spoke in a low, deep voice.

It was a strange sensation, yet somehow comforting.

She

rubbed her cheek against his chest and found a comfortable sport to nestle against.

His body radiated warmth.

Kira listened to his heartbeat, rhythmic and strong.

His hands were on the small of her back, and they were caressing her through her t-shirt.

It made her skin tingle.

She couldn't see his hands, but she could picture them clearly in her mind.

They were impossibly big, as Kira recalled the times he enveloped her hands in his.

His fingers were long, slender, strong.

They belonged to a man who never had to work with his hands to make a living, but Kira remembered feeling the calluses near the pads and tips of his right thumb and ring finger. Souvenirs from his army days, she guessed.

His hands looked strong enough to crush a walnut without tools, but his touch was gentle.

She felt safe in his hands.

Kira caught herself as she almost purred.

Embarrassed, she pushed him away and cleared her throat.

'Well?'

"What?"

'Did you stay the night at the hospital?"

She nodded.

Austyn hid a smile when he glimpsed her flushed ears.

Why didn't you call me?"

"Sorry, my phone died."

At her

words, the gloomy cloud that hung over his head since last night dissipated.

"So she did want to call me,' he thought.

"Who called you to the hospital?" he asked.

'Dr Morrison."

Austyn took out his phone.

"Who are you calling?"

'Morrison.

"Uh, Why?"

'Is he trying to check if I lied?' she thought.

'To ask him to check on your father.".

'There's no need. He and a team of doctors did a series of tests on my father yesterday. He came by morning as well and told me Dad is doing fine."

"He told you, but not me,' Austyn said. "I would like to be brought up to speed about your father's condition.novelbin

Kira's heart beat faster.

He sounded so serious and...caring.

Austyn barely knew her father.

Why would he care?

She looked away. "Okay."

The good doctor showed up in a flash.

Right on his heels was a portly man with a receding hairline and a forehead covered in sweat.

The man paused at the door, put his hands on his knees and panted.

But he soon straightened up and headed for Austyn, beaming.

Randall Snee stretched out both hands. 'Mr McCarthy, so pleased to meet you!"

"Give me a moment,' Austyn said to Stamford's Chief Medical Director.

'Sure, sure. Snee bowed slightly before retreating to the door.

Dr Morrison briefed Austyn on the patient's condition.

'Cautiously optimistic,' he said when Austyn asked about the chances of Kira's father regaining

consciousness.

'Familiar voices of loved ones may aid in the patient's recovery,' the doctor added. 'Miss Hewitt has been doing a good job. But of course we should avoid over-stimulation." Austyn thought of the scene in the hospital an hour ago.

He beckoned to the man standing at the door, whose glance was alternating between Austyn and Kira." Director Snee."

"Yes, McCarthy." The director trotted over.

'Is there a blacklist at the hospital?'

I'm sorry, what do you mean?"

'Start one from today. Patients, family members, visitors-anyone who provokes trouble at the hospital shall be made persona non grata and denied future admittance." Blacklit Them

'Ah, I see. I'll get right on it."

'I have two names here. Put them at the top of the list and make the ban permanent."

"Yes, of course, Mr McCarthy."

The M Group supplied over sixty per cent of the hospital's medical equipment.

Not to mention, Austyn was the largest shareholder of Stamford General, which made him Director Snee's boss.

His wish was Snee's command.

Dr Morrison offered up his pen and notepad.

Austyn scribbled two names, tore off the page and handed it to Snee.

Kira, who had been standing quietly by the side, caught a glimpse of the names.

Helen Vaugh, née Raynor.

Georgina Vaugh.

She gazed at Austyn stupidly.

He did this for her?
