Bedmates Soulmates

CHAPTER 123

Big Brother Damian.

His steps were measured.

His sharp eyes scanned the room, pausing briefly at the sight of the hostesses, before coming to rest on the two figures standing near the billiards table.

'Damian Matthews, as I live and breathe!' Jesse's mouth hung open.

Luca tossed aside his cue stick. 'Damian, what are you doing here?

When Austyn saw who it was, he set down his glass and stood up.

The oldest son of the Matthews family had been something of a role model to the trio in the room.

Growing up, they looked up to Big Brother Damian, who was the oldest among the four and wise beyond his years

Damian gave each one a man hug before sitting down on a sofa.. 'I happen to have a few days off. The owner of the club is a friend of mine. He mentioned you guys are here. So I decided to pop over." Damian joined a clandestine organisation after graduating from university.

The organisation's name remained unknown to his friends.

The scope of his work was shrouded in secrecy.

He often disappeared for months at a time.

Even his family had no idea of his whereabouts and it was close to impossible to get hold of him.

Luca, in his capacity as a police captain, had slightly more knowledge about Damian's work.

He knew better than to pry, so he just nodded along as Damian talked.

'I saw you two whispering in a corner, Damian said to Luca. 'Plotting another prank, no doubt. Austyn poured wine for Damlan, who nodded his thanks.

Jesse said, "Not a prank, I promise."

He winked at Damian before tilting his chin towards Austyn.

Damian got the message and started talking about something else.

After a while, Austyn went out in search of a restroom.

'So, Damian said after the door closed. 'What were you guys up to?"

Jesse smirked. 'I was just telling Luca that we should get Austyn's wife here."

Damian raised an eyebrow. 'Austyn's married? When did that happen?"

'A year ago, Luca said. 'You were abroad at that time."

You wouldn't have heard about it even if you were in Stamford, Jesse cut in. There was no wedding ceremony. He didn't invite any of us. It was all very hush-hush."

Is that so? Damian leaned back on the sofa. 'Then give her a call. I would like to meet Austyn's wife.

I'm on it. Jesse started dialling Kai's number. 'Luca, watch the door."

Giana started shooing Kira out the door when the clock hit seven pm.

"I can take care of myself. You should go home."

Kira didn't move. 'But I promised I would stay for the night."

'Promised to whom? I was unconscious. I didn't hear anything."

"Still, a promise is a promise. What if you need to go to the bathroom at night?"

'I know the way to the bathroom. Besides, your husband has arranged for a professional caregiver to come and look after me.'

'When did that happen?"

'Just now, in the cafeteria. You stepped away to make a call. A man who claimed to be your husband's assistant called. Said a registered nurse would be coming at seven-thirty. She would stay with me till I'm " nursed back to health." Giana made air quotes with her fingers.

"I was going to decline, but then I remembered the actress was picking up the tab. So I decided, why the

hell not?'

Not only that, but Giana's doctor had also come by earlier, all smiles.

He was friendly to begin with.

Now he was practically fawning over the patient.

He checked on Giana, reassured her she was doing fine, and even fluffed her pillow.

He said his shift would end in an hour, but gave Giana his phone number and asked her to call if she had any problems.

Giana could only speculate that Kira's husband had something to do with the doctor's intensified solicitude.

"But... Kira said.

"But what? Are you a professional caregiver? Do you have a nurse's license?"

'No, but I can-

'Give it up, girl. You should go home. Have you looked in a mirror? Your hair's a mess. Your clothes are two days old. Go home. Take a hot bath. Have a good night's sleep. Then come and see me in the morning, okay? "Are you sure?"

"Yes, I'm sure. You go home, while I'm going to live the pampered life of a rich person for a day." Giana smirked. "Do you think the nurse knows how to give a full-body massage?"

"I don't know. You can ask her."

"I will." Glana opened the door. "Now, shoo.

"Okay. I'll bring you breakfast in the morning. What do you want to eat? The doctor gave me a brochure. It has a list of food not recommended for a patient in your-

"I'll text you." Giana pushed her friend through the doorway. "Daylight's almost completely gone now. You

should hurry.'

'Call me if anything happens."

Big Fretlen Damian

'I will. Nothing's gonna happen anyway. Stop worrying!

Kira left reluctantly.

She was overcome with a sudden, overwhelming sense of fatigue once she stepped outside the hospital..

It had been a long twenty-four hours.

Bone-weary, she decided to forgo the bus and splurged on a taxi ride.noveldrama

Elsie was not home when she returned to the villa.

Kira dragged herself upstairs.

The door to the study was open.

Austyn was not there.

Kira didn't know if she was relieved or disappointed.

She shook her head to chase away the vague thoughts swirling around inside and went into the bedroom.

Giana was right; a hot bath brought Kira back to life.

She was blow-drying her hair and didn't hear her phone ring.

When she finally heard the ringtone, there were already two missed calls from the same number.

Kira picked up her trusty Samsung. 'Hello."

"Young Madam, this is Kai."

'I know. I saved your number."

'Oh, right. Where are you right now?"

'At the villa. Why?"

'Please give me half an hour. I'll come and pick you up."

'What for?"

A pause, then the assistant said, 'Boss is drunk. He wants to see you, so he asked me to pick you up."

Gripping his phone, Kai shuffled his feet, feeling guilty about lying to Kira.

But he had orders.
