Who would’ve guessed it would be such a hot mess?
“Gwen, can you run that by me one more time? Is it for real?” Jeannie was overjoyed as she grabbed Gwendolyn’s hands and spun around. NôvelDrama.Org content.
Gwendolyn nodded vigorously, “It’s real!”
Roselind’s eyes were red, dabbing at tears on the sidelines. She looked at Howard, sitting calmly in his wheelchair, and said softly, “It must have been tough, huh? You always keep everything to yourself.”
Others saw his triumphs, but only his family, who adored him, saw the sweat and toil.
Who knew what it took to get to this day?
Her voice choked up as she bent down to embrace Howard, bursting into sobs.
Howard patted her back gently. “It’s okay. I’m good.”
“Liar!” Jeannie’s voice trembled.
Gwendolyn’s throat closed up as she gazed at his attractive face, and out of the blue, the tears just started pouring.
The three women of the family turned into a crying mess.
Usually so composed, Jameson was at a loss at the time, his eyes brimming with tears.
Marina entered the living room with coffee, already clued in on the news, and said with a smile, “This is a happy occasion. Why the tears?”
“Right, we shouldn’t be crying!”
Roselind cleaned her tears and cracked a smile.
“Let’s all dry up,” she said, passing tissues to Jeannie and Gwendolyn, suddenly bursting into laughter. “I’ve got to take this call. The phone’s been ringing off the hook all night.”
The snooty ladies who usually looked down on her had called with compliments, inflating her pride like a Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon.
Jameson glanced at Howard’s legs curiously, wondering if he had been seeing things.
“Everyone’s beat tonight. How about we head out and let Gwendolyn and Howard rest up?” he suggested.
“Okay.”
“Jeannie.” Gwendolyn said as they were about to leave, “I brought back some tonic from the countryside to help you all recharge.”
Jeannie was quick to react. “Gwen, I know where you keep it. I’ll grab it!”
Soon, Jeannie emerged with the tonic, and the family left the cozy villa, pilling Into the car.
On the way back, with her calls finished, Roselind rolled down the window and took a deep breath.
She remarked, “Howard’s looking a lot better since returning from the countryside.”
Jameson eagerly asked, “Did he find the healer Enoch?” He thought he saw Howard’s legs move but didn’t make a fuss.
He had his suspicions.
Roselind shot him a knowing look. “Besides Enoch, who else has been looking after him. the longest?”
She was almost certain. After years of marriage, Jameson knew what she was thinking.
“No way,” he muttered. He dared not imagine!
If their son could silently become the founder of Summit Corp, what else was impossible? Jeannie was clueless about their conversation and giggled with the window down, lost in her daydreams.
Roselind smacked the back of her head. “What fairytale are you dreaming up now?”
Jeannie whispered conspiratorially, “Gwen told me tonight’s the night, so I set things up.” Roselind’s face darkened. “You fool! Your brother’s sterile. He can’t do those things!” Jeannie puffed up her cheeks. “Even if they can’t make it real, it doesn’t mean I can’t leave some room for possibilities.”
Roselind caught on to what she meant and tacitly agreed.
Tonight, it seemed Gwendolyn was in for quite the experience.
