Chapter 27- Promises are meant to be broken
Dante summoned his sand element and made cuffs out of it. Using his wind element next, he cuffed his legs to a huge pillar. Being an Alpha king meant he had all four elemental powers: Ice, fire, sand and wind. Sometimes it was a blessing to possess great powers but sometimes it was a curse. It did, however, take a toll even on his body when he summoned the elements too frequently. But tonight, he needed to.
‘Theo, settle down now’, he reached out to his wolf. His wolf completely took over when Dante was momentarily lost in his thoughts. Before he realised, they were already outside Jo’s room. And the king already knew what his wolf was trying to do.
No matter how hard he fought, his wolf’s desire to claim their mate was stronger.
But the moment Jo reminded that he was married, it made him to regain his body control. She was right. He was married.
Theo was still stirring inside his body, unsettled. Taming an Alpha wolf was not a simple task. Theo had only gone out of control like this once before when he walked in and caught his wife’s infidelity. The Alpha wolf in him wanted to rip the young warrior’s head but he knew he could do better. And so, he did.
Dante gave himself some space and time to think and reflect on everything. He pushed Olivia away and kept her in the dark. He would be lying if he said he did not contemplate leaving his unfaithful wife.
He felt trapped in his marriage sometimes. Olivia was a great wife and he was indebted to her in many ways.
Evelyn was poisoned when she was only six years old and Olivia was the one who came to the rescue of the royal family and saved his sister’s life with a miraculous antidote for the poison. No one in the kingdom including the royal healers had any clue as to why the princess started having slurred speech and was soon paralysed completely.
With Olivia’s help, his little sister survived the horrifying near-death testimony. That made Dante believe that the forbidden book’s prophecy had the likelihood of becoming true. And so, he chose Olivia as his mate and thought he would be happy. Afterall, he dedicated himself to serve his people and strengthen all the pack borders. But he was very wrong. No matter how hard he tried to love Olivia, he simply could not.
And when Jo entered his life, he was smitten by her from their first encounter. Her fiery red hair, plump lips, sweet voice, everything drove him crazy. And when she cried whilst being drunk, he wanted to shield her from the pain she was suffering from and punish anyone who hurt her.
When he touched her smooth skin, it had him craving for more. The kiss from earlier still lingered on his lips. He liked how she tasted. It was sweet and the eloquent silence that played while they were kissing was very tranquil. Jo let him devour her lips into his, she was inviting him for more or so he thought.
He had heard many lore about big Alphas going feral after losing their true mates. But now he knew they were true. Dante could not imagine sending Jo away.
‘Claim our mate’, Theo butt in again with his no-brainer statement.
Dante just blocked him off.
Why could he not have Jo?
Why did the forbidden book ever exist?
And why was a bad omen predicted for their unison?
Sometimes he wished that the forbidden book never existed. That way, he could be with his mate without any guilty conscience. Just maybe.

‘Lucy, its time’.
‘Huh’, Lucy’s sleepy mind tried to make sense of where the voice was coming from.
‘Lucy, we need to shift soon’, Emery’s pleading voice chirped in again.
‘Now? Are you sure?’, Lucy felt her excitement growing, despite it being the middle of night.
‘Yes, it’s time’, her wolf replied, matching the same tone of excitement.
Lucy wasted no time as she quickly grabbed a nearby cotton shawl and threw it over herself. She sneaked outside the mansion slowly and made her way towards the forest entrance.
‘Go further inside’, Emery guided her.
Once they were a good distance from the mansion, Lucy gulped hard as she stood still and glanced at the full moon.
First time shifting was known to be very painful and being here alone was a dreading experience.
‘Don’t worry, you are not alone Lucy. I am here with you, I will always be here’, Emery assured her making her smile. She was indeed blessed to have Emery. Lucy carefully took off her mother’s locket and held the chain between her teeth. She did not want it to snap during her shifting.
‘NOW!’
Lucy closed her eyes in anticipation of pain but nothing happened for the next few moments. She heard the sound of crickets, owls and a few small animals. But no sound of breaking bones.
Waiting for a bit more, she finally opened her eyes when it started.Belongs © to NôvelDrama.Org.
‘OUCH’, she cried in pain as she felt every bone in her body breaking as if it was being hammered down. Tears escaped naturally from her eyes as she tried distracting her mind but it was futile. The pain was too much and overpowering every sense in her body.
Her limps were stretching and she felt like her skin was going to tear if it stretched any further.
Lucy’s fought against the pain as the locket dropped from her mouth. Panic stricken, she leaned down and picked it up again.
She clenched on to the locket with her right hands as the pain continued to grow sharper and agonising. She was sweating a lot now and felt her skin burning up.
‘Mumma, help me’, she prayed.
Large warm hands grabbed Lucy from the back as she tried opening her eyes to see who it was.
‘Stay still Lucy and breath’, a familiar voice whispered to her ears.
She knew who it was. His hands glided from shoulders to her hands and he leaned forward more. It felt like Caleb was hugging her now and his touch was helping her calm down.
Her eyes momentarily darted down to where he was holding her. She saw ice frost forming on his hands and realised that the Ice warrior Alpha was cooling her burning body. It helped the lessen the pain. A lot.
‘Shift now’, Caleb’s voice commanded. And Lucy lost sense of what happened next.
Everything was in daze as she momentarily went in and out of conscious. But she felt her mate’s presence at all times and that helped her calm down a little.
As the last few shades of the dark clouds finally exposed the pristine clear full moon, Lucy opened her eyes.
Her senses were greatly heightened, she could see more clearly and most importantly, her mate was watching her in amazement.
‘Lucy- you are a whi…’, he began but paused immediately. He shifted into his own dark brown wolf within seconds. He let out a longing howl towards the moon and Lucy felt her wolf naturally do the same. Soon her mate looked at her with his silver wolf eyes and nodded in a direction, prompting her to follow.
And she did. They ran and ran until they reached a small stream of river.
The feeling of running in her wolf was surreal. The wind gently blowing past her furs, her paws touching the cold soil and the enhanced vision were overwhelming.
Once Caleb got closed to the stream, he sat his hind legs down and gestured Lucy to check her reflection against the surface of the water.
Lucy felt anxious. She wanted to see how her wolf looked like.
Her jaws dropped at the beauty of her own wolf. She was a white wolf with bright blue eyes.
As she turned to face her mate, she realised they were of same height. She felt her wolf coc. king their head to one side, confused. Alpha wolves were meant to be much bigger than regular wolves. She did have beta’s blood but how on earth was she as tall as her Alpha mate?
Caleb switched back to his human form and stood in his naked glory before her. ‘Lucy do you still not realise what you are?’.
Lucy was least bothered by his question and more focused on averting her eyes from his naked body. She could feel herself blush even whilst being in Emery’s form.
Her mate gently reached out to her wolf’s muzzle giving it a small rub with his index finger. ‘You are a white wolf with a crescent sign on your forehead. There has been only one white wolf so far in the existence of werewolves. And that was the past Luna Queen, Sarah’, Caleb narrated to her slowly.
But Lucy still was not prepared for what was coming next.
‘But even she did not have the crescent logo on her forehead. This could only mean one thing’, her mate’s voice was getting more eager by the last sentence.
‘You are a Lycan’, he finished.
