Chapter 39
Chapter 39
“I’m sorry.”
Before he even realized it, the words had slipped out of his mouth, but he did not find them inappropriate.
Sage had taken care of him for three years, but there was not a day when he had actually cared for her. He had even allowed another woman to hurt her. Hence, he did owe her an apology.
Those two words startled Sage.
Sage knew Jace like the back of her hand. She knew that he was short-tempered and stubborn. It was definitely strange for him to suddenly apologize to her.
All this while, she had been waiting for him to tell her he loved her, and instead, he had offered her an apology.
Sage mocked herself silently. With a straight face, she replied, “Apology accepted.”
She then tumed around and got into the car.
Her nonchalant attitude seemed to hint that she no longer had any lingering feelings toward him.
Did she really not have any feelings for him anymore?
Sage’s assistants had filed into the car after her, and they were ready to leave.
Just when the car started, Jace was suddenly reminded of something. He walked up to the car and knocked on the car window.
Sage was getting annoyed as she wondered when had Jace gotten this talkative.
Rolling down the car window, she asked, “What else can I help you with, Mr. Jace?”
Jace asked, “Why did you pretend to be a caretaker three years ago? Even if I’ve chosen you, you could have rejected my request. So why did you agree?”
This was an important question.
Sage turned and looked at Jace who was looking confused. He seemed to really care about hearing her answer.
“It’s not important anymore.” A gust of wind blew the cold rain through the open window. Raindrops splashed Sage’s face. In a soft murmur, she said, “Let’s just pretend that we don’t know each other anymore.”
With that the car windows rolled up slowly, all three cars left the Yuriel family mansion.
Standing in the rain with an umbrella in his hand, Jace stared at the cars until they disappeared from his view. It left a great void i n him. It was as if something was missing from his life.
He felt a suffocating pain in his chest that he had never experienced before.
Jace suddenly felt something on his shoulders.
He turned around to find Yoel with a big grin plastered on his face. His hair and shirt were wet from the rain, but his good looks still shone through.
With his arms on Jace’s shoulders, he teased, “What’s wrong? Are you missing her already now that she’s gone?”
Jace pushed Yoel away with a look of disdain on his face and hissed, “It’s none of your concern.”
“It is of course my concern.”
Like sticky glue, Yoel continued to stick by Jace’s side and went on, “Since the both of you have separated, and Sage is now single and available, I am planning to pursue her.”
Jace stopped and glanced at Yoel intently.
“Are you being serious?”
Straightening his back, Yoel put on a serious look and replied firmly, “Of course, I’m being serious. Why? Don’t you allow it? I thought you hated Sage?” NôvelDrama.Org holds text © rights.
Studying the expression on Jace’s face, he asked, “Don’t tell me that now you are divorced you are actually starting to have feelings for her?!” Jace’s eyes darkened.
